Have you heard about the weird Redskins streak? According to Inside the NFL the Redskins predict the Presidential winning party with their home game closest to the election. For the last 16 times (68 years) if the 'Skins win at home, the incumbant party stays in power and wins the election. If the 'Skins lose at home, the opposite party wins the election. The game is scheduled at 1pm Eastern time Sunday afternoon.

The Packers are favored by 2.5 points (which means it could go either way) and neither team is a lock (though the Pack looked mighty good over the past two weeks). I guess Wisconsin is picking the President (in more ways than one)?

Happily I was rooting for the Packers anyway. Now the rest of you have a good reason too. Okay, some of the rest of you.

Says you.

Sure, the Packers are favored by 2.5 by Democracy Corps, but they've been leaning towards The Pack for weeks. Tracking polls done by Zogby show the spread tightening in recent days, and Zog now calls this a pik'em. Gallup actually has the Redskins favored by 6 going in, but there's some suspicion over their methodology.

You guys crack me up. That's just a great story Andrew. And triggercut, that's just an excellent come back. :)

Well since the Redskin offense can't even generate 17 points this game is over. All I can say is the correlary in this intance better fucking hold true. Seeing my team get their ass kicked for nothing would be depressing. We haven't been blown out all year, every game has at least been close. This is going to be a blow out.

Oh well there is always next year. Ugh.

Well, it wasn't really a blowout, but the Packers still won...

I missed the illegal procedure call on Portis that would've really changed the game at the end, but I heard at least one claim that it was a garbage call.

And since it was coming from a Bush supporter, it was his way of saying that Kerry was going to steal the election. Good stuff

Don't get too cocky...

"Oh, yeah, he's going to win. It's guaranteed," said Packers safety Darren Sharper, a Kerry supporter. "I don't have to vote now. Don't even have to go to the polls. Saved me a trip on Tuesday."

...I mean, Kerry's going to win and all, but don't start saying that you can skip going to the polls.

Hate to kill the hopes of many people but we've had a much longer, far more notorious streak broken just a week ago. This is a crazy year.

I'm not one for omens, but every time the Red Sox have won a World Series in the year of a Presidential Election, the incumbent has been defeated.

Don't believe me? Check out this list:

Year President Was the President Re-elected?
1912 William H Taft No

I think the figures speak for themselves...

There's not really any argument that the WR was moving forward at the snap. It's one of those ticky-tack penalties that didn't impact the play at all, but rules are rules.

I love how this wacky correlation also happened to come down to an event that the legal system had to intervene in and overturn. Bad omen for the coming week... :)
