View Full Version : Power Puff Girls: Do you have to see this, too?

So my nine year old sister calls me up and tell me I have a choice:

(1) I can take her to see the Power Puff movie this week. Or,

(2) I can take her to see the Croc o' Dull hunter movie next week.

So I figure I'll take her to the PowerPuff movie, and stick my folks with takin' her to see Steve Irwin. Easy choice. Right?

Personally, I'd rather see a Samurai Jack movie, but that hasn't quite caught on yet.

I'm ashamed to say that I sort of want to see this. If there was a way I could see it without actually having to go to the ticket counter and say "One for Power Puff Girls," I'd probably do it.

I find the show funny, and I like its style. So sue me.

My kids love the show. We'll probably go see it. The show is really well-written. They're truly the Bugs Bunny cartoons of modern day...

I thought I was the only straight adult male who likes the show. (Of course, I'm not going to mention that to my folks.) I'm actually glad I have my little sister as an "excuse" to see it.

I should also note that my wife thinks it's a pretty great show as well. Once again, there's some really good writing...

You could always do what I did with my ex's kid and the Pokemon movie...

Opening credits... Oh jesus, no - this movie SUCKS... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... zzzzzzz.... zzz-ugh?... Closing credis roll. Kid says to me "Man, that was great, did you like it?" I was like "Right on, dude!"

I totally got away with it unnoticed. I was so proud.

I think I inherited this from my mother - who slept through Willow, Startrek III thru V, and about anything else not rooted in reality during my childhood. Go figure, she's the one pestering me to take her to see Episode II. Guess she's desperate for a nap.

My mom once slept through the IMAX film Ring of Fire. It's about earthquakes and Volcanos and was incredibly loud, but she managed to take a snooze.

"I will destroy the Powerpuff Girls. Yes, I, Mojo Jojo, will destroy the Powerpuff Girls"

Powerpuff Girls totally rule, no shame in that.

Yeah, let me chime in and say that I like the Powerpuff Girls, too. It's a great show. Between that, Cowboy Bebop, and Home Movies, I'm a happy cartoon camper.

In fact, the quality of the cartoons on the cartoon network makes me sad that I grew up when I did. The stuff I watched as a kid was a lot better than the crap cartoons of the 90s, but my childhood shows don't hold a candle to the cartoons that they have today (mostly on the Cartoon Network). Kids growing up now are lucky.

I'm almost ashamed to say that I'll be dragging my wife out to see the PPG's movie this weekend. I should probably drag my nephew along so I don't feel so self concious about being the only person there who isn't accompanied by a sub-4-foot tall companion.

And good call on Cartoon Network, Ben. If they had these caliber of cartoons on when I was a kid, I would have been one of thsoe rolly polly, pale from the lack of sun, kind of kids.

Instead I grew up with MASK and G.I. "everyone parachutes out alive" Joe as my cutting edge cartoons. Ugh

My favorite episode of Powerpuff Girls is when they decide they're tired of being themselves and want to be more like their favorite comic book heroes. Bubbles reading her bunny rabbit manga was great, as was Buttercup's MacFarlane send-up.

Cartoon Network's Adult Swim on Sunday night is a good block of TV. It'll be better once they get enough other shows to drop Baby Blues off the line-up. Home Movies is my favorite. I'm also excited to see more of Harvey Birdman, Attorney-at-Law. New episode this weekend. I've seen the Apache Chief episode all three times they've showed it and laughed out loud every time.

See, now if all us QT3ers lived in the same area, we could all go together and hide our shame in a group.

Mojo Jojo is the greatest. What other villian talks in passive voice all the time? "I will enslave the people of townsville, and then the people of townsville will have been enslaved by ME! MOoooojo JOJO!"

My favorite episodes are a tie between "Meet the Beat-alls" (clever as all get-out) and the one where the girls make a new sister, "Bunny," who is big and retarded.

And even if you can't appreciate the PPG, you can definitely appreciate some of their commercials/shorts. These are worth watching for ANYONE:

www.fandango.com

sells tickets, but you might still have to redeem 'em at the ticket thingy.

Oh, one of those where you say "I've made a reservation, booking number 0843256." (nice and anonymous) and the ticket person responds "That's ONE TICKET TO THE POWERPUFF GIRLS, SIR?" and you start looking for someplace to hide.

www.movietickets.com is a good place to check out too. You buy online with your credit card. They then have these little automatic box office things in the lobby of the theatres. You put the card in that you used to buy the ticket(s) and the ABO spits them out at you. It's how I bought my opening night tickets for LoTR and Spiderman. No standing in line, just walk up and insert card.

You still have to hand the ticket to the guy and watch him smirk as he says "Powerpuff Girls is in theater 13 to your left, Sir who is apparently seeing it BY HIMSELF"

Wow...not sure what my favorite PPG episode is...they're all good. The one where Mojo Jojo tries to turn everyone into dogs and recounts how he failed at doing it the last time is classic. (The biting... the dropping... the breaking... ) I'm also a big fan of BEBO.

It's all good. Like I said...Bugs Bunny for the modern day.

OH...BTW... I don't have anything to worry about wrt looking dorky. Get some kids, then you'll have a reason to watch cartoons all the time too. :D

On the other hand, if potential derision from someone who tears pieces of paper in half for a living is so frightening, you might want to see the movie anyway because it probably has positive messages about self-esteem that could benefit you.
