Even Bob Barr is uneasy with Shrub

Remember Bob Barr? He was one of the GOP's major figures during the Contract with America days. Well, he just wrote a column blasting Bush for exploding nondefense-related discretionary spending, leaving the borders wide open while billions are wasted in Iraq, and for the attack on civil liberties. He's not switching over to Kerry, but it sounds like Barr will vote for a Libertarian candidate as a protest against Bush.

Bush is more of a conundrum (sp) for true right conservatives than many understand. His spending is on a par, at least, with any open pockets liberal. The conservative mantra is cut spending and cut taxes, not spend like crazy and cut taxes. But of course no true blue conservative will vote Bush. I'm betting that the surprise of this election will be the number of people who identify themselves as Republicans in the polls and who say they will vote for Bush who are instead going to stay at home.
