Haha, I sent this story to a Republican coworker, and his response was "what the hell? It happened 30 years ago!"

My response was studiously predictable.

His response was likewise. "Kerry made it an issue!" he blubbered. Mm hm.

Ah, hypocracy. It's fine when you're doing it to the other guy, he deserved it, but holy shit, who the hell do you think you are, doing it to MY guy? You bastard, how dare you!

So this guy considers it better to be a dangerous alcoholic who went around trashing people's houses, trying to start a fist-fight with his dad, and acting like a complete asshole on a bike in the middle of a busy road so as to antagonize his mom than to be a decorated war veteran who testified against the war.

Yep, that's today's republican party animal. Ooga Ooga Ooga.

Kerry would be the richest POTUS in history. He wasn't raised in a trailer park. He was also rich before he married the megabucks.

I won't mention the Kennedys. Oops.

And Bush was poor? huh? Once you hit a certain level of rich does it matter? It does crack me up that Drudge and the like keep portraying Kerry as wealthy and Bush as poor. Sorry, it isn't true. Bush did not grow up poor or even modest, he grew up rich.

Jeez. Bush is the grandson of a US Senator turned wealthy New England banker, as well as the son of a President himself. This is a guy with a silver spoon in his mouth from Day One.

Kerry married into most of his wealth, courtesy of his wife. While he did manage to go to good schools, his family never had a considerable amount of wealth.

Never undstood the mocking of Kerry for marrying into wealth. His wife is rich. So what? Does that mean you're only for marriage if the couple is straight and of middle-class status?

Both men can't compare to Reagan or Clinton, though. One's the son of an alcoholic shoe salesman, while the other was raised by a widowed mother in a tiny Arkansas town.
