View Full Version : I would rather hear more about those 3 purple hearts
The RNC is even more distasteful than I could imagine. All that is missing it the picture of the two towers burning and the eagle with the tear between them. I really hope this is just the opening night, if this whole thing is about 9/11 and that somehow being the reason we attacked iraq - ugh, fucking ugh.
If the RNC made movies, it would be nothing but children and pets in danger followed by some retards about to accidentally do something to hurt them. Talk about cheap heart string pulling...
wow, Giuliani has gone off the deep end at the end of his speech... gets the fans to boo germany and even works in hitler, all about how shitty europe is. Excellent!

Muslims and Arabs attacked the US on 9/11. Therefore, the US has to go kill lots of Muslims and Arabs. Bush did that. Therefore, re-elect Bush.
Any ole voter can understand somethin' that simple!

Agreed. Rudy's speech was absolutely crazy. He basically encapsulated everything that's awful about the Bush administration. I couldn't believe the shots he took at Europe, especially since he didn't even bother to set the UK apart from the pack. You'd have to think some people there are a little pissed today.
But it was tremendous political theatre. It was maudlin, manipulative, and perfectly orchestrated to tell those on the fence that a vote for Kerry would be a vote for terrorism. Like it or loathe it, it makes the Republican message very clear in a remarkably straightforward way. Both Rudy and McCain drew distinct lines in the sand, despite all the bullshit about one America, and clearly indicated where "we" stand and where "they" stand.
The Dems didn't produce anything like that at the DNC, so there is really just one party platform out there right now. Ask the average person on the street what the Republicans stand for, and you're going to get one answer. Ask the average person on the street what the Democrats stand for, and you're going to get a hundred answers, many contradictory. That's not the sort of thing that gets candidates into the White House.

Heh. No kidding. Apparently McCain really didn't know Moore was in the audience, so when the crowd started pointing to him and booing, and then Moore started playing to the crowd, which made them boo more...well, McCain got more than the short applause line he was banking on. It sort of fed on itself.
I thought Moore played that moment perfectly, too. He didn't get pissed or offended, and just sort of ran with the moment.

That speech certainly didn't come across as centrist - I didn't really like his speech at all. He was surprisingly aggressive, which I guess is o.k., but it was also really long, less focused and riddled with anecdotes that I think generally fell flat. I thought some of his digs at Europe weren't particularly relevant or necessary. If he was running against Edwards in 2008, I'd definitely reconsider which party I was rooting for.
I thought McCain's speech, on the other hand, was fantastic, and addressed a lot of the points the Democrats typically try to use against Bush. I particularly liked this line: "What our enemies have sought to destroy is beyond their reach. It cannot be taken from us. It can only be surrendered".

Sheesh. This part of the forum really is full of democratic/liberal shills and rabid Bush haters. Did it ever occur to anyone here that its roughly 50/50 and that while half the nation may agree with you the other half DOES NOT. So my question of course is where is that other 50% in THIS forum? Its apparent most of you sit around on this forum stroking each other while yucking up how wonderful Kerry is and how terrible Bush is. Well, don't fool yourselves there are JUST AS MANY supporters of Bush in this nation as Kerry. And if Bush is SOOOO bad and so awful why the fuck is he currently ahead in the polls? If he is TRULY as bad as all of you think then Kerry would be ahead by a good 20%. Bush isn't down and Kerry isn't ahead. So its plain enough to see that most of you guys are flat wrong regarding many things. Oh, but you can GOOGLE so you must be EDUCATED!!111!! What is it, around 5 liberals for every conservative here? Or is it 10 to 1? And out of the few conservatives, any far right ones? Don't here from them much. I know there are certainly plenty of far left ones here.
The polls go back and forth but its apparent that a fair cross section of the country sure as hell isn't represented in this forum and most of you come across as a group of partisans sitting around thinking up how best to insult Bush and bash republicans. This means of course that most of what one gets from you is negativity leaving little vision for the future.

So far as I know, there's no screening process at the entry to this forum preventing republicans from joining the discussion. The fact that they choose not to, or choose to vanish after a brief period of time, or choose to only interact by jumping in every few months, screaming at how stupid everyone else is, tossing out a few insults, and repeating whatever they just heard from the echo chamber, is entirely their own fault.
Really, what the hell is the point of whining "FFS TEAMS U JERKS"? Should half the progressives on the forum leave and stop posting here until the conservatives can manage to stop grenading their own spawn and get some frags in? Or, wait, I know, maybe half of us should grab some bats and hit ourselves in the heads until we're able to think like you and Bob Cherub do. Of course, by that point, we'd have lost the ability to type, feed ourselves, or, hell, even breath without mechanical assistance. Hmm, that's not such a bad idea, come to think of it. I nominate Midnight Son to go first. Take him, as a gesture of peace and goodwill, motherfucker.

Aside: seems like every liberal I meet claims to be a "progressive" or "moderate". yeah, right.
I can only speak for myself but I don't post here much because getting into debates in an Internet forum is pretty much a total waste of time, quite passé. I went through that in '95-97. I buzz through here--and post--occasionally. It is pretty laughable to see the libs posting here by the pound, always upset about something, scouring the Internet for the latest social injustice, blurting it out here. "Bush is a warmonger!", "SUVs are bad!", Tax the filthy rich!".
Sometimes someone here says something interesting, even if I do not agree with it, and it gives me something to think about. I don't feel compelled to demonize those I disagree with (and when I am provoked into doing it, it is a mistake on my part). But nah, I don't think we will ever see the conservatives posting 30 threads a day proclaiming the end of the world. Who has that much free time on their hands?
Liberals/Democrats, obviously.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but as a moderate I don't bother to post any of my ideas from the conservative side of the fence. The "poo flinging" (good term Damien) from the liberal zealots makes it pointless. A rational discussion of the issues is impossible in such a climate.

I am pointing out that Bush doesn't just have support due to his charm, charisma, and Republican machine. You guys bash not just his policies, but you bash him personally with constant ad hominem attacks calling him dumb, stupid, willing to go to war for oil only, Moveon.org compared him to Hitler, you slam his children, and one of my personal favorites "The Chimp." In addition so much of what you guys say read like DNC talking points which by their very NATURE are clearly biased. You guys list out all the terrible things about him, criticize decisions he has made to protect this county, accuse him of just about everything you can to put him in a bad light. You guys regularly dismiss the incredible impact of a starting recession a year before he took office, the coporate scandles that went on all thru the Clinton years, and most importantly the horrible impact of 9/11! 1 million jobs lost within 90 days! But we should put all of the stuff aside because its too inconvienent to talk about the truth- it rains on bash parade.
Liberals can list every issue they have a problem with regarding Bush and say its a bad thing. As a matter of fact liberals LOVE bad news about the economy, the war in Iraq, another soldier wounded and so forth. How can I say such a thing? Because THATS what they use for ammunition. Liberals NEED bad things to happen, indeed they crave them so they can come here and post about how terrible Bush is and SEE-SEE THIS is why "The Chimp" needs to be gone. Now, it makes no differece if its Bush's fault or not, ALL bad news about this nation is GOOD news to liberals because they blame it on Rebuplicans and it could means maybe an extra Democratic seat on the senate or a different person in the whitehouse. Conservatives can come back with those issues and explain them calmly away intelligently and rationally DISAGREE with your positions on every single issue.
What gets me is the very fact that if you guys were ALL CORRECT in your assertions, you don't think the US voter would have seen it by now? Are you all part of some special nerd society privy to some secret info the rest of us just can't find or see because we are too stupid to swallow your constant negativity?
There are just as many informed Republicans as Democrats in this country. The simple truth is that a lot of your positions in my opinion are flat out WRONG. Thats the way the other 50% figure works, ya see? I am college educated, I read, Google, watch political debates, conventions, and various political shows every night. I read google news pages everyday. I used to be undecided but I am now firmly locked into voting for Bush after examining ALL the information available to me. There are a lot of us out there. Not brainwashed by FOX, not sucked by the RNC (anymore than you guys are suckered by the DNC). Although I know a lot of you like to thumb your noses up and sniff in a snobbish way that Bush supporters are all hicks, rednecks, use various other cultural slurs and that we are just too stupid to see the TRUTH. Yes, yes Bush is such a moron then only a moron would vote for him, right? If only we weren't such hicks, if only we weren't too stubborn to see the light! Well, thats wrong. The TRUTH is, WE just don't fucking agree with you! You think you are right - we think not. We shall have an election to find out.
OH, and Bush actually got a BUMP from his Convention. Anyone remember whay Kerry got? Oh yea, JACK SHIT! He was too focused on bragging about himself being a war hero- well, hehe, he paid for THAT tactical error.

I'm not concerned about the parity of ideology representation so much as the quality of debate. Could we get some right-wingers who aren't retarded chodes? The few we have who aren't only ever seem to appear when some of the nastier messes need cleaning. You know - like Erik. Sometimes they have to resort to playing Devil's advocate - that's all they can do. It fucking sucks. How much fun can it be to be reduced to apologising for the Bush administration's many egregious fuckups? It's hard to go on any attack that doesn't seem dated or trivial because Kerry hasn't done anything lately, and we know so little about what he intends to do if he gets elected. It's all defence, defence, defence - stop the lefties from going too far. No fun.
