It's official. The Flash's costume may look okay in comics, but it should never, ever be duplicated in real life. Wonder Woman's, no problem. (http://www.milehighcomics.com/images/email/wwflash.jpg)

Okay, worse than Flash. And WTF are your wings? (http://www.milehighcomics.com/sandiego/sdcc2004/friday/hawkman.jpg)

Black Cat, a bit better. (http://www.milehighcomics.com/sandiego/sdcc2004/friday/spideyvillians.jpg)

Jim Shooter was actually the inspiration for Colossal Boy. (http://www.milehighcomics.com/sandiego/sdcc2004/friday/1111.jpg)

Just shoot him now and end it. End it, please. (http://www.milehighcomics.com/sandiego/sdcc2004/friday/catman.jpg)

Dude, that Flash looks great!

It's only because he's next to that Wonder Woman that you're dissing him! *hubba hubba*

I know that guy with the facial tattoos. Sort of. He used to frequent the same local computer shows I attended when I lived in San Diego. Here's an interesting and entirely believable fun fact: The guy stinks like nothing you have smelled before. Seriously. He must literally never bathe. I would be looking for discounted games or some cheap RAM at the Masonic Temple where they held these things and I'd smell something and I'd think "Oof, Tiger-Man Face must be here" and lo and behold, two aisles over there he'd be, looking into the makeshift cardboard view limiter some guy selling digitized porn had assembled on his monitor.

God. That looks like it was painted on his skin.

He's apparently dressed up as the Super Friends Hawkman action figure -- after the wings have fallen off and are LOST FOREVER!

Did Doc Ock just break out of the psych ward?

Does the young chick on the far right have her own action figure? If not, she should.

Ew. That's the creepy guy that's quoted/featured in every report about body modification. Beyond freaky.

Wow, Catman is off the hook. I guess you can't really stop once you get going ... or something.

Wow, just wow.

That flash costume looks pretty good. The old school Doc Ock is nice too. And it's good to see a Spidey and Hawkeye costume with the guys in shape.

The Flash costume looks about as good as a Flash costume can look... It just highlights what a goofy costume the Flash has. Jay Garrick's winged hat and tee-shirt combo is a little more sensible.

Now, if that girl playing Wonder Woman can act at all, she should so get the movie role. Forget silliness like Sandra Bullock -- put a more convincing wig on her and she IS Diana.

I know everyone was looking at Black Cat, but that Spidey is hilarious.

You know, I'm not into comics anymore, and even when I was I was never interested in Mavel, DC, etc etc., but I do think it would be great to go to this event one year. Looks like a total trip.

I was in the same position in '02, and I went for one day. I had a great time, got some books signed, and bought a nifty Tenchi cel. When I got home I started collecting again, though I now buy trade paperbacks instead of individual issues.

One can never have enough Amanda Pays on video, though it was always a shame that the Flash never really took on anyone that any average cop couldn't have beat. Where were the super-villians? Mark Hamil was great in the role that probably landed him the animated Joker's voice gig, but that was about it.

What's with the wires on Wolverine?

From his pre-Wolverine days as Weapon X (http://www.skycop.org/toypix/other-heros/10-weapon-x.jpg).

I demand better pictures of Wonder Woman.

Hawkman has wings, but they're small and the photo makes it look like the person standing behind him is wearing a white gown or something.

Its great. I went to the Comic Con a couple times when it was still in Chicago.

Its a shame that it moved, because now I am old enough to truly appreciate the convention-going experience.

Okay, but I still wanna be Hellboy.

You know, it would be fun to have a Qt3 ComicCon get-together. Any excuse to get Tom Chick into some spandex tights!

I went last year because I lived close and I'd never been to a major comic convention like this. I haven't read comics in over 15 years, but I still enjoyed myself enough. It's worth it just to go to some of the panels and look at all the freaks that come out to these things. It was also fun to see and chat with some of the webcomic artists that I like.

Even if you're not into comics, it's fun to go to these things at least once for the same reason it's fun to go to Star Trek conventions (wich I also did a few years back). They're part of American pop culture, and it's fun to dip into that culture once in a while if you don't live there entirely.

Yeah, that's the greatest part for me about large-scale industry conventions like this. That you really don't have to care much about comics anymore, because there's such an innate tie-in with marketted toys. It more than makes up for the time I'd spend browsing the artist/publisher booths knowing absolutely nothing of what's going on.

A QT3 ComicCon meetup does sound lovely, though.

Also, how does the guy in that Daredevil costume above see out?

I'm amazed at how much more elaborate comic/scifi costuming is from anime cosplay.

You'd think the anime fans would take some hints from ... well ... everyone else ..

Isn't he supposed to be blind? It's not bad costuming, it's method acting.

To be fair, this is one of the big, big conventions, hence there's enough people that you get a larger number of cool costumes to take photos of. You still have a number of overweight Jedi in poorly stapled-together robes and Toys R Us lightsabers.

There are some nice anime costumes, just there are more small anime conventions around, so you get less exposure to the really good stuff like:
