I've been dabbling with Madden 2004 lately - building the 2004 Redskins from the weaklings they were to the powerhouse 'oh dear sweet jesus how the heck am I getting under the salary cap this year' 2010 Redskins - and I'm getting mildly frustrated by the flaws in the management system of the game.
The flaws that frustrate me:
No more than 10 draft picks in a draft. (Oftentimes I have to toss lower draft picks into a trade just to remain at 10, which is frustrating) (And, at times, I'll burn through a draft, and have several potential gems that have slipped to the late rounds - but I can't trade for additional picks to grab em, because the 10 pick limit is for the entire draft, not based upon how many picks I currently have)
No ability trade future year's draft picks. (My current frustration is having my entire squad of old, highly paid folks be a good mix for the upcoming year - and push me right up to the salary cap (no room for rookies) - and I'm sitting on the #2, 6, and 20 picks in the upcoming draft. I have to take some monstrous cap hits moving veterans around, or scrap the draft picks. I'd trade those #1 picks for next's year's #1's in a heartbeat, but I can't)
No room to wiggle player's salaries on a year to year basis in the signing period. (Just because I cut a signing bonus to $0 doesn't mean I want to pay the guy the same salary for the next 4 years. And maybe I could back load some of these contracts with some ridiculous numbers to lower this year's cap impact, or get a player to sign the overall deal)
Is there a better equivalent NFL game for management, with almost as good of a playstyle for the arcade portion of the game?
I tend to spend about 50% of my time building the team, and 50% actually playing a few games with it.
Thanks, in advance.
