...the drive to a bunch of public payphones in a set time limit? (i think the guy who played the gravelly voiced general who was in independence day was the guy in the cutscene mission intro)

i don't want the entire game completed, i just want to skip this one stupid mission. i tried it a bunch of times but after the tenth time it went from kinda fun, to annoying, to work being better, to 'cursing in frustration at the stupid designers' rage inducing. (my main beef is that i can't do it in the time alotted, my secondary ones are the 'hey let's put a public phone on the other side of wall so the player is on the wrong side three times' and the 'hey let's put phone somewhere where there's two levels so i waste time looking in the garage for the phone i can hear ringing when it's actually in the upper deck' and the 'hey, let's make the last phone visit have half the time allotted in the other trips, and have the car pointed the wrong way because the player doesn't know he should use his spare time from the last phone round to orient his car in the proper direction')

Heh, I do actually have one where I've gotten 100% completed. Probably not what you want, though.

Anyway, the best advice I can offer is to just swallow your pride and use the "cornerslikemad" cheat that gives all cars fantastic acceleration (as well as ridiculously sensitive steering, so don't go too crazy). Then grab a Yakuza Stinger - there is always one in front of Akusa's apartment that should never be locked. Doing this let me beat this mission on the first try when I replayed it last week (I hadn't played the mission in a long time and forgot where the phones were).

If you insist on not cheating, I can't offer any good advice aside from using something like a Banshee or Cheetah, one of the really top-notch sports cars. I would assume the one you can steal from the showcase of Capital Autos in Northeast Portland would be fast enough. I don't think the Yakuza Stinger will work without the cheat code.

Also, this mission isn't the most annoying one in the game, so don't pull all your hair out yet. Save some for the NEXT mission with Ray, "Two-Faced Tanner".

I don't have a save game immediately after that point, but if you send me your save game, I'll beat that mission for you, save it, and send it back.

Don't get discouraged, though. All the missions ARE doable without cheat codes. Do what curst says and snag a fast car before trying it. Gotta say no to the Yakuza Stinger, though. They corner like crap and accelerate too slowly to be of any use in timed missions.

I had a devil of a time with that mission until I found the place to steal a banshee. Then I finished with absolutely no trouble at all. If you're not using that car -- that's the problem.

i tried the mission again. now that i knew where the first few phones were i got to the 10 left seconds as soon as you get off the phone. my damaged car(either the yakuza or banshee) was again pointed in the wrong direction, so by the time i got to the street the time was up and i didn't even see where the phone was.

noun, i am going to take you up on your offer, thank you!

Yahoo's a lot more vigorous about blocking attachments, now. I forgot about that.

Just e-mailed you with an alternate (and hopefully) less restrictive e-mail account.

This whole thread reminds me of another on one of the GTA fan sites where there's some buy with a stick message who says send him the save game and he'll beat the next mission and send it back to him.

Depending on how many more go arounds I have with Hillary I may take him up on it. :?

Hardest mission in the whole game. The walkthroughs I read all say that if you take all the corners perfectly, you can outrace him. I found that impossible, especially since you're saddled with a crappy car while he has the fastest one in the game. What I did was to accelerate full speed until the first corner, then I plowed into him and sent him spinning half a block away. This allowed me to complete the course at my relative leisure.

But yeah, it took me at least 6 tries before I made it.

They way I beat Hillary was just follow him, hang back a bit, then at one point he will screw up. After that I took the lead and beat him. It was tough but doable.

After posting I went back for more punishment. I came to the conclusion the solution was taking him out some how.

I went around to block his way with the rocket launcher, but the rockets didn't do any damage. I raced up behind him hoping for another shot at him and...

you know how the textures can sometimes take a while to draw when you're really moving? At least they do on my ol' P3. Well, when I caught up to him, somehow his car was buried in the street. All I could see was the top of the pink arrow in front of the pizza stand around the corner from the finish line.

I wasn't proud. I went back and went through all the checkpoints, and when I crossed the finish line it said mission failed Hillary is dead.

Fuckin' level design, still the weak link.
