Two very good articles on journalism in its current state.

Steven den Beste makes my teeth itch. This is probably because I can't handle the truth, of course.

That Frontline site had some interesting stuff. Here's a page full of interviews with folks like Howard Kurtz, David Broder and Bob Woodward among other, non-Washington Post, folks talking about what's wrong with the media. Or rather, was wrong during the Clinton-Dole campaign era. Much seems to still be broken by those standards.

Steven den Beste is cocksure, arrogant, abrasive, at times closed-minded, and talks far too much about things that he thinks he has all the answers to. He's also right too often for me to just dismiss him out of hand. I think this article is one of the ones where he's far more right than wrong.

In related news, I think I'm going to try to keep count of the number of times SdB uses his favourite analogy to mobile phones; that, just as you sometimes have to ship a really crappy mobile phone product which isn't ready in order to meet a deadline because marketing is on you ass, sometimes you have to start a pre-emptive war of aggression without the support of anyone else in the world and before you have deployed your troops properly because ... sometimes you have to ship a really crappy mobile phone because marketing is on your ass. Or something. There's a particularly good example today.

That SdB digest is hilarious and perfectly sums up everything I've ever read on his site (which I only know from his Stardock forum posts where they have some kind of political debate club that makes P&R look sane).

Stardock had an NNTP server originally (and still has?), before they set up web boards for GalCiv and Window Blinds.
There was a political newsgroup on that server where a number of gentlemen including Steven den Beste would frequently post their wacky world views. Scary place, that.
I think Brad wisely decided not to move that particular group to the web forum. :)
