Pointed out by a friend, mybe you've seen it already. A guest on TechTV's Call for Help show and a very funny(not for him) accident he has. I feel for the guy but I can't stop laughing when I watch it.

Poor guy. What was that thing he was holding? And why did it spontaneously do what it did?
What was that thing he was holding?
Looked like an Edison waltz to me.
It's definitely sad, but I almost fell of my chair laughing nonetheless. :)

I saw it ages ago, but ti was worth the visit - it look like some kind of old recording thingo (like and LP in a cylander)
I love the way he says, just after it breaks "Oh fu, shit.."

I'm impressed at his self-control.

That was so great!
Everytime I watch this again I have to laugh even more than I did before. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes, you know.
I'm impressed at his self-control.
Absolutely. Same for the other guy.
EDIT: Btw., who is that guy? Was he the owner of that equipment (collector maybe) or did they get that from some museum?

The timing couldn't be better.
As soon as he gets through telling us how it's "The only one in the world like it . . ." <CRASH!!>

The guy has Parkinson's or something. We discussed this last time it was posted - his hands are violently trembling the entire time. The thing that kills me is what a squealing asshole the show host is - "Well, those things happen! Moving on!" Matt, this guy was fired or put to death or something when G4 took you guys over, right?

I think the host just tried to downplay the matter and not let things linger on this. It's proper TV etiquette.
I'm not sure if the old man has Parkinson's so much as he's keenly aware that he is handling the one and only item of its kind in the world.

He didn't have parkinsons. Near the end of the segment he calmed down and was shaking much less. He was just super nervous to be on TV.

That guy looked like he was using some sort of supergrip on the tube. Or maybe the tube was extremely brittle from age ?
If it was so valuable they should have displayed it in a glass case.

I'm not sure of the specifics, but I have been told that this incident was actually staged.
But you don't have to take my word for it!

Is that host Chris Pirillo?
Whoever he is, I wish he'd never speak again.

I bet you're that kind of person that runs through the neighbourhood, looking for kids and yelling "There's no Santa Clause!". :x

He reminds me of the actor from Office Space. The model employee at the restaurant with the admirable flair collection.

I take Matt's word for it.. although both do great acting jobs, it does look like the guy purposely crushes the thing with his iron grip. Nice pull back shot right before the crush too. Plus the "one of a kind" speech before was just sooooo convenient.

It wasn't really a kick.
It was more of a shove with a foot.

I don't know...would someone really risk FCC violations for a staged accident?

You can't violate FCC regulations on a cable channel. You can only make advertisers mad.
I've heard conflicting reports, even from people "in the know." Some say that no, it wasn't planned, others say that it WAS planned, but the guy got carried away and said the f/s-word.
Judging from the tape, I really, really think that it wasn't planned, but they later said it was planned to cover up their ineptitude.

Whatever did happen to Pirillo? The whole thing about him leaving is about as shady as whether or not this was staged.

From what I understand, "officially" - he left to persue other projects.
"unofficially officially" - he was laid off to save money.
"unofficially" - after he shaved his head on a bet, and then colored his remaining stubble red white and blue, TechTV's higher ups didn't want to keep such a weirdo around who they couldn't predict. They even put clauses in other people's contracts that they couldn't shave their heads.

I always wondered about that. thanks. Why is it that radio isn't the same way then? because you don't pay for it?

Yeah, radio and standard TV broadcasts go out over the airwaves, which means you have to have a license from the FCC, which means you have to put up with their regulations. Cable doesn't. The rationale here is that there's limited space in the airwaves, which are considered public property, so the government is allowed to regulate who gets to use the space and what they can use it for. Cable TV cables, by contrast, are private property owned by the cable companies (or somebody), which they paid for, so they can send almost anything they want over them without interference from the government.

But isn't Morgan Webb's "thing" that you never know what color her hair might be?
Or is that just a manufacture image and The Man is keeping her hair the same shade of tinted red/purple these last couple of months?
