I was thinking about flashlights in movies, and the only one I came up with was the scene in I Am Legend where Will Smith chases his dog into that building that has all the infected vampire things in it. I hope I’m correctly remembering how it happened.

What made the scene so effective was that the darkness was pitch black. A lot of nighttime or dark scenes in movies (I won’t speak for horror movies because I watch those so rarely) are scenes that are perfectly illuminated, but in such a way that they’re supposed to look like it is night. Anyway, in that scene Will had his flashlight on but was covering it with his hand. His actions had to be balanced between being able to see so he could find his dog, but also not wanting to shine the light too long and give himself away. But because of how dark it was, Will’s character and the audience never knew what Will was going to see next when he moved his hand away from the flashlight. That might be my favorite part of that movie.

When Dingus allowed Kelly Wand’s glow-in-the-dark superhero as a flashlight, I figured he was going to allow pretty much anything out of relief that he hadn’t chosen a movie featuring a Fleshlight.
