The Aztecs are coming! The Aztecs are coming! Crusader Kings II gets weird.

Well, everyone knows the Aztecs were defeated by Spanish conquistadors. What this Crusaders Kings II add-on presupposes is…maybe they weren’t.

    Nice reference.

    Wildcat….

I think the line is “…Maybe they weren’t?” The question mark is important.

And they sailed on in the friscalating dusklight.

Thism is such a dumb idea, with vague traces of the inappropriate.

I mean, a civilization wiped out in large part by disease brought by Europeans, and you bill it by saying “now THEY bring the diseases to kill Europe!” feels mildly icky.

Not to mention the unfortunate use of “savage and bloodthirsty”. Native Americans, and they use “savage”. Hmm.

  • thebigJ_A

It’s a statement, not a question. It gets a period.
    “Maybe they were not.”

  • Giaddon

In the film, the line is definitely delivered as a question.

This reminds me of one of the histories in Orson Scott Card’s PASTWATCH–where the Aztecs do invade Europe in the 16th century, a Europe wracked and weakened by a fresh round of Crusades.

    My, what an obscure reference.

I guess I sort of stand corrected?

  • thebigJ_A

    Orson Scott Card. Gross.

  • mygaffer

Is the writing a dumb idea or the expansion? I see no reason why an alternate history expansion is off limits in a strategy game.

He may have some unpopular personal beliefs but he is a good writer.

    k-pow…

The copy for it is definitely a dumb idea. If the expansion actually is Aztecs appearing and spreading disease, as seems likely, that’s pretty gross.

I find the expansion itself dumb, even without those gaffs, since it goes far beyond alternate history in my eyes. It’s fantasy. Alternate history is “what if this one (or a few) event(s) went differently, what would happen”. This is “what if nothing even remotely resembling Aztec history ever happened”. Hell, it’s got time travel, for crying out loud. The Aztec Empire, the civilization they’re portraying as coming across? It didn’t even *begin* until the extreme end of the CK2 timeline.

Sure, and Hitler gave great speeches.

Godwin’s law, I know, I know. The point stands.

Just because he’s got a redeeming quality doesn’t mean you should support a bigot financially. *Especially* since he’s using that skill to promote his bigoted agenda.
