Qt3 Games Podcast: it’s here

Chris “I’m Not Going in the Water” Hornbostel joins us this week to talk about what we love about Guild Wars 2, what we don’t love about Guild Wars 2, and the anecdote we would tell to express what’s special about the game. You can find us in the game at tomchick.6739, mcmaster.9567, and triggercut.2059.

The podcast just isn’t the same unless McMaster gets the crappy job.

  • Chris H.

Against my better judgment, I found myself accidentally actually enjoying some underwater stuff earlier today. I’m thinking it’s a passing thing.

Shoudn’t mcmaster be only farming onions and potatoes nonstop for Toms delicious casserole?

  • eznark

    Stormbluff woooooooooo!!

  • Chris H.

Ban him, Tom. Just until the next two weeks are up.

Honestly, I’ve been pretty much completely unable to get into WvWvW. I’ve sat in queue for over an hour on both Saturday night and Tuesday night to no avail.

That said, the fact that I recognized the name of the server I am playing on I think says a lot about the way this WvW is structured. Very cool.

    :(

The only upside is that I think of myself as TVs Frank to Toms Dr. Forrester.

Your movie today is Pod People. It has nothing to do with pods, it has nothing to do with people, it has everything to do…with hurting

With a buddy mine I kicked a nipple beer, giddy as a goat I’m flying over trout!

I think we got flipped away from Stormbluff again.

A few tips, 1. only armor crafters can make bags, but all three types of armor crafters can. 2. A great place for Strawberries is this bluff overlooking the Wizard town in Kessex Hills that has a pair of diving goggles. You can reach the bluff by following the cliffs that run along the west of that town (starting at the waypoint in the Cereboth canyon with the bears and stuff), and then get past a bunch of Ettin. There are like a dozen Strawberry spawns there. Also a Vista.

Also, as someone who never buys micro-transactions in online games, never bought items in DCUO (except with comped credits), never bought any MP packs in Mass Effect 3, I bought a second bank space within the first weekend. /shame

There is no shame. There is only more space.

Also, thanks for the strawberry hunting guide!

Kinda surprised to hear so little criticism of the combat model. I’m not feeling GW2 too much because it’s exactly the same kind of combat MMOs have been doing for years, and there’s very little about it that’s actually interesting at this point. Even the skill selection (mesmer in particular) suffers greatly in comparison to Guild Wars 1.

So while I really like exploring the world, I just can’t escape the fact that I’m playing a nice evolution of the MMO PVE meta-game layered over really substandard moment-to-moment gameplay. Maybe PVP will make it more engaging.

I guess it’s the weapon switching I like and it mixes it up. However, yeah, it’s totally a MMO.

  • Chris H.

Weapon switching, active dodging, and constant movement are a requirement for even PVE encounters as you level up, far moreso than any MMO I’ve played excepting the also-recent Secret World.

What I call the “skill division” also makes the combat feel different. The weapon skills on the left of your health display and the heal/utility/elite skills on the right give the combat an interesting and exciting dynamic as well that I don’t feel from other MMO’s.
