Qt3 Movie Podcast: The Watch

In the summer “comedy” The Watch, a band of misfits takes on an alien invasion at a Costco. No matter who wins, we lose. Speaking of watches, this week’s 3×3 considers the best countdown timers in movies.

I was hoping the pure awesomeness of Richard Ayoade would make a different. Also likes me some Jonah Hill.

    Shame.

Dingus, I think you meant to say The Dark Crystal as your #1. Holds up much better.

  • Christien Murawski

Nope. The Skeksis freaked me out WAY too much to include that movie on any list.

  • Scott McNeill

Touche. That scene where the minions abducted the Podlings scarred me as a child. Now that I think about it, there were a lot of disturbing elements in that movie…still, good use of a countdown.

Dark Crystal totally freaked me out too

Kelly, don’t let these clowns push you around. Venus is the morning star, known as Lucifer (“light-bearer”) in Latin.

As much I liked Attack the block, I definitely understand your reservations Tom. I see Attack the block as a remake/homage to Predator and I think in that way it wanted to set up the kids as tough hombres rather then likable goof balls (a la super 8). The results are a bit icky but I was ultimately okay with the main character playing the part of a black knight…as it were.

I had the rightness nailed but couldn’t muster the give-a-shitness.

  • Christien Murawski

Wait…you mean Neptune isn’t the devil god? Huh.

  • Gormongous

Well, Greco-Roman mythology doesn’t really have a devil figure. Their trickster-god Pan is good-natured, their underworld-ruler Hades is impartial, and the rest of the gods are all assholes anyway.

Kelly Wand claims to be a Canadian, but you can tell he’s still an out-of-touch West Coast Elitist because he thinks there’s something remarkable about there being a Mexican immigrant in Ohio.

“Watch Parts” turned out to be a much better catch phrase than you thought, huh, guys. I took it as Kelly’s two-word review: don’t watch the whole thing.

  • KellyWand

Brevity is but one of many things lost on those two philistine apologists. And given the economic climate, I find it remarkable that America still has any immigrants at all. BOOM.

  • Christien Murawski

    What’s a philistine?
